Small Pixel Microbolometers in Japan
NEC and Mitsubishi Electric have both developed advanced small-pixel uncooled focal plane arrays (FPAs) and are now completing development of large format arrays.
SAGEM Wins FELIN Contract
SAGEM has been awarded a contract by the French Ministry of Defense to develop and produce the FELIN future soldier system and is seeking the best solution for the infrared parts of the system.
DRS Wins DVE Contract
DRS Technologies has won the sole contract to supply the B-Kit for the Driver’s Vision Enhancer II (DVE II) to the U.S. Army. DVE is an Infrared Imaging viewer for Combat Vehicles (CV) and Tactical Wheel Vehicles (TWV) designed for enhancing vehicle maneuverability during daylight, darkness, adverse weather and dirty battlefield conditions.
Export Controls on a-Si Microbolometers Take New Turn
The U.S. State Department has filed a Commodity Jurisdiction (CJ) asking that uncooled amorphous silicon (a-Si) FPAs and modules be placed on the Munitions List (USML) rather than be licensed as a dual-use item by the Commerce Department. This move would place strict controls on a-Si modules exported from the United States.
