First Images from Space Infrared Telescope (SIRTF)

The first images from NASA’s Space Infrared Telescope (SIRTF) were presented recently and revealed clear pictures dating back to the origins of the universe. The telescope’s 20 - 180 micrometer spectral response enables it to see through thick space dust.

Aegis Ballistic Missile Test Scores a Hit

A Raytheon Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) scored a direct hit on a ballistic missile in space during an Aegis BMD Program flight test off the Hawaiian coast in December. The SM-3 is part of the Lockheed Martin-developed Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system.
